5 Powerful Ways to Start a Relationship With God Today

You’re in a new relationship- everything is fun, fresh, and exciting… so get excited! This new relationship with God will be your best one yet, because He can never fail you. So buckle up pookie, you’re in for a ride! Here are five ways to begin this new journey with God:

1. Communication

• Prayer is how we communicate with God.
• We pray for ourselves, for our loved ones, for situations, the world, strangers, etc.
• Through prayer, we draw near to the Lord and seek Him in our lives.
• Through prayer, the Lord hears our every desire, although He already knows them, but this time He’s hearing them from you.
  1. He wants YOU to come to HIM for your every want and need.
• In many cases, prayer is not your average conversation. Many of us cannot physically hear the Lord -in the same way we hear our friends or loved ones, for example- or identify His voice from those around us.
  • Keep your heart open to the Lord because that is where He is speaking to you: in the silence of your Heart.
    

2. Dive Into His Word

• Scripture is the Word of God, so when you want to hear Him, read Him, for He is the Word.
  • Infamous John 1:1 says it best: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
• To know Jesus is to know the Word, because “Ignorance of Scripture is Ignorance of Christ.”
• A relationship with God is attainable because He is near, you can carry Him right in the palm of your hands as you dive into the Word.
• The Lord speaks to you in His Word, in your heart, through people, and other ways He deems necessary.

3. Attend Church/Community

• Church is your guide; it brings you closer to God as you learn things about Him and of yourself; it helps you differentiate right from wrong, etc.
  • The Church helps you in your confusion, frustration, longing, desire, desperation, and all the other feelings that come with being a Christian -there are joyful feelings as well 🤣.
• Jesus built the Church for our salvation, which is a powerful word, with an even bigger meaning, because there is immense value in the Church.
  • The Church is a home for sinners, so come as you are and seek the Lord.
• Joining a Christian community could also benefit you especially if you feel that your journey with the Lord has been a lonely one.

4. Show Up Everyday

• Show up everyday for the Lord because His every being desires to be with you.
• Communicate with Him daily through prayer and just in general, outside of prayer.
  • write to Him
  • sing to Him
  • have random conversations with Him
  • just invite Him into every part of your day
• Continue to read your Bible and hear what He is saying to you today.
• Considering that God is omnipresent, it is only you that can distance yourself from Him in this life; His very essence cannot do that.
  • Even if it seems He is not there, He is.

5. Love the Lord With All of Your Heart…

• Invite Him into your heart.
• The Lord is the perfect gentleman- He will not come barging in, He waits for your invitation to enter.
• When He comes knocking on the door of your heart, let Him in and make your heart His home.
• Love the Lord with all of your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all of your strength

Being a Christian was never meant to be easy, but so worth it.

For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
