It’s 2025, and the internet is in its prime- taking up all of our free time. Take a trip down memory lane and revisit the younger years of your life, when you weren’t glued to a screen, comparing yourself to others with every scroll. For many of you, those were the good old days, huh? Right- so let’s create more of those good days. Here are 7 fun ways for women in their 20s to decrease scrolling while having an amazing time.
1. Document Your Life to Have Something to Look Back On In the Future
Yes, this does involve a screen- but it’s just you and a camera. No comments, trolls, likes, dms, etc. Just you.
Share with you future self- or future children- what your life looks like at this moment in time. Record:
- Things you’ve learned
- Something you want to learn
- Something that you’ve overcome
- Something you enjoy
- Relationships you’re building or getting rid of
- Your faith journey
- Struggles, joys, breakthroughs at work, etc.
Let the camera become your personal diary.
2. Learn How to Paint Using an App on Your Phone
For those of us who aren’t naturally artistically inclined- but have always wished we were– this might be the perfect activity.
Time consuming? Yes
Worth it? Absolutely. You’re actively learning a skill rather than aimlessly scrolling through your FYP.
One app you can use is Grid#, which lets you add grids to any image of your choice. This is super helpful for getting proportions right as you draw, which is key for beginners.
Here’s a quick video demonstration. You might spend hours on your phone- but this time, it won’t feel like a waste.
3. Partake in a Random Low-Cost DIY Project That You Can Add to Your Home
You know those times when you feel like doing something, but nothing specific comes to mind? This is one of those times- so let’s find a project.
- Need a Lamp? DIY it!
- One woman found inspiration and created her own version for way less money.
- Make super easy artwork for your home
- Another woman made gorgeous wall art with just a blank canvas, paint, a brush, and a blow dryer.
- Create something eye-catching for your events
- Someone turned a basic hula hoop into a stunning centerpiece
These are just three ideas out of thousands. I’ll be sharing more blog posts with fun, random, low-cost DIY projects soon- stay tuned!
4. Ride a Bike While Listening to Your Favorite Podcast, Audiobook, Girlfriends, etc.
I love a good “kill two birds with one stone” activity- and I’m pretty sure you do too.
You know maybe you weren’t feeling the gym, pool, or Zumba class– but you still wanted to burn some calories and get a decent workout in. Biking is your girl.
She’s fun, exhilarating, EXHAUSTING, but she gets the job done. And the best part? She lets you multitask. You can listen to your favorite podcast, audiobook, or even catch up with your girlfriends over a call.
Before you know it, the park is closing, and you become Karen who still has five minutes left in her Audiobook refusing to leave because it’s just that good. (Okay, fine, maybe you don’t actually put up a fight like a Karen- but you think about it.)
5. Learn How to Ride a Bike
This may sound like a repeat of the last one, but you can’t go biking if you don’t know how to ride.
While most Americans do know how to ride a bike, there’s a small percentage who don’t.
If that’s you- yes, you 🫵🏾 girl, give it a shot. Don’t let fear, missed childhood opportunities, or past trauma hold you back!
6. Binge a Movie or TV Series
LISTENNNNN. Listen, Linda. This isn’t a blog post on screen-free activity or reducing screen time (but I got you girl, I can write that too!) This is to decrease scrolling on your phone.
So, it’s 7:00 p.m on a Friday night, and your plans got canceled. That’s your cue: order takeout, pop some popcorn, kick your feet up, and start that series you’ve been putting off.
If you’re like me, you’ll binge watch a K-drama or 90 Day Fiance all night long. But maybe you’re more into docuseries, anime, baking contests shows- whatever floats your boat. Put your phone down and actually enjoy what you’re watching.
- please comment below telling me to make a blog post on a list of K-dramas for you to watch 🙏😩 (it gives me purpose)
7. Binge a Famous Book Series from Movies That You’ve Watched Growing Up
Think about it:
- Harry Potter
- Girl, you saw this coming
- The Hunger Games
- Yeah, probably saw this one coming too
- The Lord of the Rings
- The Chronicles of Narnia
- (I was today years old when I found out that this was a books series 🙈)
Once you’ve finished the books, go back and rewatch the movies to compare and contrast. It’s the perfect excuse for a movie marathon- except now, you’re doing it with literary depth. Look at you, scholar and cinephile!
Final Thoughts
Endless scrolling can suck up hours of your day without you even realizing it. But life is so much bigger than your FYP, feed, explore page, etc.
You’re in your 20s, decrease scrolling and increase happiness. This is the perfect time to explore, grow, and try new things- whether it’s DIY projects, biking, painting, reading or just vibing with your favorite audiobook while doing something you love.
DECREASE the scrolling & INCREASE the living.
