Easter is near, which means that the beautiful Lenten season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving is coming to an impermanent end. To have an amazing and joyous Easter season, let’s try avoiding these three mistakes!

Being Regretful of Your Lenten Journey
I sort of, kind of might be talking to myself with this one- but shhhhhh don’t tell anyone.
During this season of Lent, you might feel regretful. Maybe you think you could have done more, or you slipped up on something you were supposed to give up, or perhaps you’ve been slacking on your quality time with God. I won’t lie- it’s good to reflect on this season and recognize the areas you can improve in, but don’t beat yourself up about it.
This season of Lent may be coming to an end, but you have each day of your life to partake in prayer, fasting, almsgiving. I mentioned an “impermanent” end because these things shouldn’t stop with Lent. You shouldn’t stop spending time with the Lord or bettering yourself the ending of Lent draws near.
You can continue to work on yourself, help others, and make improvements along the way that will bring you closer to God- any time of the year. So, less crying and more trying!

Forgetting that Easter is also a Season
Believe it or not, Easter isn’t just a single day- IT’S A SEASON. So, if you go to church a week later on Sunday and hear “Happy Easter,” that’s why; a joyous celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus has begun and is celebrated for weeeeeks. I know, crazy, but it’s TRUE!
So, if it’s two weeks later and you’re that one unemployed friend on a Tuesday afternoon looking for something to celebrate, here it is: EASTER!
Decentering Jesus on Easter Day
Growing up, Easter was about the Easter Bunny and Easter eggs hunts– nothing more, nothing less. I wanted to shake the Easter Bunny’s hand, and I wanted to fill my pillowcase with as many Easter eggs as possible. But if you’re reading this, you’re probably not a kid anymore, which means there are no more excuses.
For most Christians, Easter is the most important holiday, celebrated for great reason. It is important that we put an emphasis on it’s meaning and not on what society has made of it.
If you have kids, of course, you want to make it more fun and special for them and might even partake in common activities that we see on Easter. But it’s important that they, too, know what Easter is all about. There are ways to have fun and to also teach them about this beautiful celebration. (click the link to find out 😉)
Easter is indeed a joyous celebration, but remember to keep Christ at the center!

God loves us all more than we can never know. He sees us trying and knows where we need help; trust in the Lord your God, for He can never fail you. Let the joyous Easter season commence!
